I signed up for my first class at Tai Chi Mantis Institute in 2011 when I was 59 years old. I knew very little about tai chi or qi gong at the time and was only interested in finding some sort of physical activity that was close to my home and didn’t include joining a gym. Eleven years later my tai chi/qi-gong practice has become one of the most important commitments of my life. The physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of the practice as taught by Sifu Wong are immeasurable.
I am now 70 years old. I love to tell my peers that I am off to tai chi for a two or three hour class and watch the look of amazement on their faces. The reality is that I am stronger, straighter and have more flexibility and energy than I did eleven years ago. My circulation has improved greatly, and I now can meditate outdoors in cold weather with warm hands and feet. The focus on internal training ensures that one can safely continue to learn and practice no matter your age. It takes dedication and practice, but anyone can benefit.
It is an amazing gift to be a part of this school and to have Sifu Wong as our teacher. Sifu has dedicated his life to studying, training and advancing the martial arts and to imparting his expertise and wisdom to all who wish to learn. His depth of knowledge and level of skill is phenomenal and only matched by his endless patience. He is a wonderful teacher, mentor and role model for all of us who are dedicated to healthy, active aging. He cares deeply about each student and carefully tracks all of our individual differences and rates of progress and improvement. My life has been truly enhanced by this school and I look forward to continuing to learn, improve and share my knowledge with others.
